One of the few Starfleet vessels to have more than two nacelles, the Stargazer class is named for the famed U.S.S. Stargazer, which was commanded by Jean-Luc Picard in the mid-24th century. It was one of the first ship designs produced by Starfleet to rebuild its fleet after the Dominion War. Stargazer Class ships are well suited to either solo exploration or operating as a member of a fleet.

USS Stargazer (NCC-2893)
The Stargazer Class is named after the USS Stargazer (NCC-2893), a Constellation Class Federation Starship that was in operation during the mid-24th century. The USS Stargazer was most famously captained by Jean-Luc Picard for a period of 22 years.
The ship was lost in the "Battle of Maxia" when it encountered an unknown Ferengi vessel. Assumed destroyed in the battle, the Stargazer was found adrift in space by the Ferengi and was eventually salvaged in 2364 by the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), Picard's subsequent command.
